What are youth drop-in centres?
Youth drop-in centres are designed for young people who are going through difficult periods of their lives. They can be visited by young people from all social backrounds. Social workers make contact with incoming children and provide them with social service and advisory. The social worker solves large variety of problems such as boredom in free time, problems at school and family, psychological and social problems connected with adolescence, bullying, drug use and crime. Young people have also an option to use the centres for their own needs, for example getting together, doing homework, relaxing. Entry into centres is free of charge, young people come and go whenever they like and can choose what they would like to do. The most common activities young like doing is: listening to their own music, watching movies, playing table football, table tennis, pool, air hockey. There are also climbing walls, outdoor equipment and music studios or art and pottery workshops. Major importance of centers is in their advisory and preventive work. They give the children space to talk and confide with the problems which can be solved by the social workers. Each centre has set rules which include no alcoholic beverage consumption, no use of drugs, no violence or bullying. The centres are safe place for young people.
